In Book One of Lauraine Snelling's new series The Daughters of Blessing, we are returned to Blessing, North Dakota and the approaching wedding of Ellie Wold and Andrew Bjorklund. Andrew and Ellie are asked to wait getting married by Andrew's father, Haakan, who believes that because their house has not come on time, it is a sign from God. This throws the couple into temporary chaos, but through this waiting period they both discover the wisdom of following divine guidance and listening to their elders.

Snelling once again writes with extensive detail, so the reader will have no trouble at all envisioning life in the early 1900's among Norwegian immigrants and life on a farm. When Andrew and Ellie's new barn burns, the young couple learns some hard lessons. During this time, Andrew and Ellie both grow in their spiritual lives and commitment to each other. Andrew learns to trust and have faith in God to help him handle the trials in life, while Ellie discovers that the best way to help Andrew with his problems is to pray for him. Snelling also brings the readers up to date on what the other characters from the Red River of the North series are doing. Even if you haven't read this previous series, you will feel like you know them when you finish this book. This first book in the series of The Daughters of Blessing is a stand-alone book; the characters are well developed.

If you have a love for historical fiction, get this book! When I finished reading it I was inspired and encouraged to appreciate the little things in life, taking nothing for granted. Life is never easy, but it's worth the glorious journey and we come out of our hard times stronger and wiser, realizing how God was and is with us every step of the way. – Judy Vipperman, Christian Book Previews.com

I really like this book. One of my old pastors wife lent it to me and I could not put it down. It is a book to read curled up in bed with chocolate. I am an avid reader so a love to read anyway. I saw the book and had to buy it. I like to read books over and over. I hope that this helps.

It was a good book. I do have to admit it was a little hard to get into and figure out who was who but once i did it was good. It definately teaches you a lesson about it doesnt matter whats on the outside what matters is on the inside. It also tells about how family sticks together and how prayer works.

It took me a little while to get into this book but once I did and figured out who was who, it really held my interest and I wanted to keep reading. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next ones in this series.

Wonderful continuation of the Bjorklund family! Snelling brings her characters to life and is able to share the Gospel with the whole world in the day to day living of a family who truly loves and lives for the Lord.

A Promise for Ellie by Lauraine Snelling was wonderful reading. I fell in love with the Families in Blessing, North Dakota in the Red River of the North series so I was thrilled to see books following up on the children raised there. I love the way Lauraine Snelling takes you on a journey of everyday life filled with love of God and kindness to those around you. Great writing as you can hardly put the book down as you anticipate what will happen next. I am sure the next book Sophie's Dilemma will be just as good.

This was the first of Lauraine Snelling's books that I read. This story was very well written...after reading it, I have now read 5 of her books in the last two months! I love how realistic her writing is. You certainly feel like you are right there in the midst of all the happenings in Blessing and in Ellie's life!

Lauraine Snelling is one of my favorite authors. Her books are entertaining, encouraging, uplifting, never sappy or crude.
